The Position:


The Maintenance Manager provides strategic leadership for all maintenance, refrigeration, utilities, and facility systems across the plant. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Shipping & Receiving, Safety, Sanitation, and Fabrication, this leader ensures equipment reliability, operational efficiency, food safety, and employee safety.


This role is responsible for building a best-in-class maintenance organization through strong leadership, preventive maintenance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while overseeing a 24/7 maintenance operation.


Responsibilities:


Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance, electrical, millwright, fabrication, and utility teams.
  • Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing maintenance workforce.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews, succession planning, and employee development.

Maintenance & Reliability Management

  • Develop and improve preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
  • Lead maintenance planning and scheduling to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Oversee CMMS, work orders, and asset management systems.
  • Track KPIs related to uptime, downtime, reliability, productivity, and maintenance costs.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures.
  • Ensure reliable operation of production equipment, refrigeration, utilities, electrical systems, and facility infrastructure.

Operational Excellence

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to support production goals.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, reliability, and product quality.
  • Manage capital improvement projects from planning through startup.
  • Coordinate shutdowns and major maintenance projects to minimize production interruptions.
  • Use performance data to identify and implement improvements.

Financial & Asset Management

  • Develop and manage maintenance operating and capital budgets.
  • Control maintenance spending while maximizing equipment reliability.
  • Oversee purchasing of parts, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and asset lifecycle strategies.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Build strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Negotiate service agreements and oversee contractor performance.
  • Ensure all contractors meet safety and food safety requirements.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM, GMP, HACCP, SQF, and other applicable regulations.
  • Champion a strong safety culture throughout the maintenance organization.
  • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure maintenance activities support food safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to resolve operational challenges.
  • Communicate maintenance performance, capital projects, and operational risks to leadership.
  • Serve as the technical leader for maintenance and facility operations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Respond to critical plant issues and emergencies as needed.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Establish preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing or food processing.
  • 5+ years leading multi-disciplinary maintenance teams.
  • Strong experience with CMMS, reliability programs, and asset management.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets, capital projects, and contractor relationships.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, utility systems, industrial controls, and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a 24/7 maintenance operation in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Direct Reports: 15 (Maintenance Supervisors, Electrical Technicians, Millwrights, Mechanics, and Maintenance Planners)
